"Many Americans believe God can intervene to save dying patients, a new survey shows. More than half say that God can revive a family member declared lost by doctors, and nearly 75% agree that patients are justified in seeking extra treatment. "Sensitivity to this belief will promote development of a trusting relationship" between doctors and families, researchers said." (http://www.newser.com/story/35191/half-in-us-say-god-can-save-the-dying.html)
70% of Americans believe that reaching an afterlife is possible though more than one religion. "Surveying 36,000 people, the study confirms that while 92% of Americans believe in God, the country is growing more secular, the Dallas Morning News reports. Seven in 10 also agreed that there were multiple correct interpretations of their faiths" (http://www.newser.com/story/30722/americans-see-many-stairways-to-heaven-poll.html)
But what about Science? Where does that fit in? Darwin? Natural Selection?
"In theory, evolution is believed to have taken billions and billions of years. The idea of evolution was first recorded on paper by Charles Darwin in his 1859 book The Origin of Species. Darwin’s book offered the world of science its first rational and well-argued theory for a manner by which evolutionary global change had occurred and would continue to occur over time. "
Did we evolve from monkeys??
"Humans did not evolve from monkeys. Humans are more closely related to modern apes than to monkeys, but we didn't evolve from apes, either. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees. Scientists believe this common ancestor existed
5 to 8 million years ago. Shortly thereafter, the species diverged into two separate lineages. One of these lineages ultimately evolved into gorillas and chimps, and the other evolved into early human ancestors called hominids. " (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/library/faq/cat02.html)
But if we evolved from Monkeys why are are there still monkeys??
"We didn't evolve from monkeys, monkeys and humans share a common ancestor. An animal that lived about 40 million years ago, known as Aegyptopithecus, is believed by scientists to be a direct ancestor of humans... It is natural to think of humans as "more evolved" than other animals, but this isn't true in any scientific sense. We are differently evolved, simply adapted to a different environment. It so happens that our intelligence, and the culture and technology that it spawned, has turned out to allow us an unprecedented degree of success, and the ability to live in environments that our ancestors couldn't. But evolution didn't somehow anticipate this. " (http://karmatics.com/docs/evolution-still-there-are-monkeys.html)
A few years ago I was at the zoo, and next to the ape exhibit there was an information chart explaining the transformation from apes to humans. And I know I'm kinda slow sometimes, but that's what I realized that, they are saying god, doesnt exist. And several weeks ago in our local newspaper was a huge article about a fossile they found that was a missing link, fossile they named "lucy" (http://lucyexhibition.com/about-the-exhibit.aspx)
What do you guys believe? What do you guys find a HARD time believing?? What theories have you heard that seem completely rediculous? I just want to point out that I do belive in god. Maybe that's just because I have a lack of knowledge on the other theories. You decide, but I think its more than that. :)
So take the quotes with the websites and links for what their worth....who said anything on the internet is creditable anyways :)
